Her family own a bakery, so their apartment above it always smells like something wonderful to eat! There are many hungry children living on the streets in Mexico City and their yearning faces touch Consuelo’s heart. She knows that there’s always food left over in the bakery; what would happen if she created a special cantina in the courtyard, and invited the children in? Maybe she could even teach some of them to become bakers! Sometimes, an idea can become a new life. Consuelo is the generous and imaginative girl from Mexico City who hungers to help others. She sets up a little restaurant outside her family’s bakery to feed the hungry children living on the streets the left over baked goods from the day. Her story is about the difficulties and hard work of her small operation and also the rewards from helping others. She even teaches some of the kids how to bake so some day they too could be bakers too.
